Sara Mahoney is entering her twelfth year as a Probation Officer for the Allegany County Probation Department and is currently specialized as a DV Probation Officer, responsible for investigating and supervising DV offenders as well as facilitating two weekly DV Offender Groups. She holds a Certification in Domestic Violence through the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress/National Center for Crisis Management and is also trained as a Domestic Violence Instructor through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center/US Department of Homeland Security. She has credentials through the Advanced Institute on Non-Lethal Strangulation, Trauma Informed Clinical Foundation Program through the NYS University at Buffalo, and DV Risk Assessment for both victims and offenders. She is active in the County’s Coordinated Community Response to DV and Sexual Assault, sitting on the DV and Sex Assault Response Teams, participates in the IDV Court and sits on the Law Enforcement Committee of the County DV Consortium for the past 11 years. She holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from SUNY Brockport and has been working in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault for 15 years, and has facilitated trainings on various DV topics at the local and state level to providers, law enforcement, and attorneys.
