Description: The images and fascinating world of street gangs has found its way to mainstream popular culture. In fact, street gangs have been portrayed in the mass media since the late 1800s in such ways as news print, television news stories, Hollywood films, autobiographies, video games, toys, the music industry, and social media. In the first of a two-part presentation, an exploration of where and how street gangs are perpetuated in the mass media and thrust into popular culture is explored.
